Build Quality Content to get more Visitors
This page is for webmasters and let’s be very clear amongst each other. All of us want more visitors as more visitors would ultimately mean higher traffic, higher ranking, higher links, higher PR, higher click thru rate and ultimately higher revenue. Webmasters use different practices to attract traffic and many of them, to say it rather bluntly, dubious, but they do not yield results in longer run. Such web masters shift from strategy to strategy in different short runs and my experience says, they are quite often, moderately successful in short to medium run and rarely successful in longer run. One simple factor that has always stood test of time and is widely accepted as the ultimate traffic builder is the content in a web site. I have web site with some of the very basic and weird articles, where I have used phrases that a layman would use in expressing his intent. One thing that most webmasters fail to appreciate is the use of keywords. Though, all the web masters would differ with this and say, that this is elementary and they take care of keywords, but they are wrong here. Most webmasters are highly qualified in one or another area of expertise and thus fail to understand and think in common man’s jargon. That is what keyword a common man would think when he is searching for some information. Instead of technical jargon in most part of articles, a simple jargon would be better.
A content writer should think of his audience. For example, you are having a site for outsourcing of some site development services. Only webmaster that has a small budget would be your likely audience. Any webmaster, that has a sizeable infrastructure, sufficient enough to employ an in-house designer, would just hire a programmer full time and not outsource unless the aspect being outsourced is very typical one. I am not saying that they don’t outsource, but either such instances would be very less or the job sought to be outsourced would be very typical and specialized one. If you have capability of serving such jobs, most probably, you would not have been surfing this site.
Therefore, webmasters should not be happy to fill pages with keywords that attracted search engines, but turned visitors off. Now even the search engines are learning to ‘read' like a human. If the content has too many keywords and unlikely sentence structures, it may consider the site to be manipulated and not list it.
Even if you are able to get visitors, they are more likely to be turned off. So, how do they make their exit? Simply, either thru clicking of an ad or just closing the browser window. Rarely would they like to have a repeat visit. Even if they make exit by clicking of an ad, it won’t change your fortunes as next visitor would again required to be brought thru ‘adwords’ or any such program and not thru quality of the content. If you want a site that attracts search engines AND keeps people on your website, you need to have information that is relevant, informative and well written.
All this means that you should make content which is rich with keywords, rich in honest way. Not probably adding keywords just to get higher ranking. Any day, you would find many sites that have manipulated keywords and get higher ranking, but if you keep track of such sites, you would also see them off from rankings, sooner than later.
Keyword-Rich Content
Keywords are very important to search engines. The words you think that people looking for your information or product might use in the search engines are called ‘keywords'. The search engine acts like a Yellow Pages phone book. People look up a topic by word or phrase and find the related entries listed.
There are many issues that need to be kept in mind while adding keywords. If revenue model of your site is thru clicks of ads, then you would know that different keywords in a similar subject pay different prices on click of ad. For example, if your site has content about mobile phones and you are running google ad-sense program, then different keywords in mobile phone would give different revenue on click of an ad. This revenue can differ by 100% also. It would be a good idea to go to adwords program to see what is the price for an ad in google for different keywords and use rather those keywords that pay higher price. But be sure to optimize the right keywords. Use wrong keywords and you would never be successful in long run.
But just adding those high paying keywords won’t help; ultimately, users must appreciate the content. That would happen only when quality is inbuilt in the article.
One way to find the right keywords is to find out what words are most popular for searches. Using a word harvester like the Keyword Selector Tool (found at www.overture.com in the Resource Center) you can find out approximately how many searches have been made for your selected keywords. You may find some similar words or phrases that have even higher amounts of searches than your first selection.
The key to finding the best words for your content is to use the most general term first and then find more specific words or phrases that relate to your website. For example; if you are looking for words for a children's education site, you might first look up the words ‘children' or ‘education' to discover the most searched term related to your topic. Perhaps you'll see ‘child education' or ‘teaching children' are more commonly searched terms than ‘children's education'.
Unique Content
The algorithms are constantly changing, but currently it has been stated that the search engines don't like duplicate content. That is why many affiliate businesses that set up new websites for each member are often unable to make a top showing in the search engine results.
Copying content from other website may seem better idea in the beginning, but be sure for a day you would be regretting the same. Writing your own content or hiring a ghost writer to write it for you will work better. If you like an article and would like to put on your site, do ask for permission to do so; most writers would be happy to allow this and give them credit for the article. Unique content would help you stand out from the crowd.
Informative Content
As mentioned before, getting traffic is not valuable to you if people leave your site right away. Providing informative content is not only more beneficial to your visitors it also helps you in search engine placement.
Search engines also tend to discount various phrases cluttered together. There are grammatical rules that some search engines may use as a basis for weeding out optimized sites from the truly informative.
Remember the rule- When you are writing on any theme, there would be millions of pages showing up a result. Only way to stand out among all of them and get visitor is to stand out, give quality content and Wow!!-there you go!!.
