Consider Site Maps for more traffic and better revenues from your website

No doubt content is the king and is able to get you good traffic but what can content do if the content is not getting indexed in a search engine.

Site maps help you a lot in getting the content indexed by search engine. Apart from search engines, a site map is also helpful to your visitors in navigating your site, especially if the site is complex one.

As for me, I am personally against too much use of flash in the site for simple reason that content in flash does not get indexed in search engines. However you can use the power of site maps to still get those pages indexed in search engines.

You can also rank the pages on the basis of their importance through site maps. Site maps also help search engines to plan next visit to your site by telling them the frequency of their getting updated. This help search engines quickly find out the recently updated pages in your site.

Creating a site map need not be tough. I would suggest using protocol, currently known as "Sitemap 0.90 as it is preferred protocol for all major search engines including Google, MSN, Yahoo, and Ask and almost has become a sort of universal standard.

An example of site map is as follows:

never
0.3

weekly
0.8

In the above code, LastMod is to tell search engine the last time a page was changed and helps them figure out the pages that have not been changed. ChangeFreq tells search engine, the frequency they need to check the page. Priority tells the search engines the relative importance of this page, compared to all the other pages in your site.

You can also use many sites to help you generate a sitemap.
