Having a website has become a compulsion for any sort of business. As for introduction, I am not a programmer who could design the sites himself. I tried to learn building websites but found that too confusing and frustrating. I realized that I had core strength of getting content, and as I am only moonlighting building websites; I thought only to concentrate on content.

However, honestly, getting hold of a programmer who could translate your dream into reality is a herculean task. Either such programmers exist in wonderland or are too expensive to afford. Then I realized that with little patience you can choose some online tools that can deliver you workable site. However I could not make perfect site with such tools. These sites lack with one or the other feature.

If you are too keen to have nothing but the best site that meets all your expectation, then you need a custom built site; however be prepared for a deeper hole in your pocket. I would request readers to share their experience as comments below, as I share mine, for getting a site developed, even the communication costs as Telephone bill or some time value to explain the site content comes out to be more than the costs of readymade sites on the subject that are available across forums and through sites that sell scripts in bulk.

Out of my network of sites, one of them is custom built for which I had to pay through nose. However, one thing that is common to all the sites, it is the content that rules my earnings from a site. Visual appeal is definitely the determining factor as to whether or not a client or customer will remain on a website long enough, and if you feel graphics play major role in monetizing your site, custom built sites are for you.

For building websites with tools, you don’t need any software to buy or code to learn, all you need is to be a little Internet savvy and know how to click your mouse.

Another factor that you need to consider before deciding upon whether to have custom built site or site with tools, check if your site would be compatible with needs after say next five years. If you are choosing to use tool, check if these tools can help you redesign site with your requirements after next 5 years to meet the compulsions of that time. If you cannot plan so much in advance try hiring web auditor who would have you redefine your goals and let you know the requirements that would be there in short term future.

If you don’t have high budget, not a bad idea to try building your own site with some great tools. The internet is a massive library of "how to" information, where you can literally teach yourself making site that meets your needs get your imaginations carried and make business a great success.
