Develop Natural Links for Higher Google Page Rank
In 1997, when I first started my own web site, I first installed Alexa Tool Bar that indicates the number of incoming links to your site and I was fairly impressed with the number of links that some sites had. Honestly, at that time I had no idea as how one link differs from others and it was only after lots of highs and lows in internet business that I realized what the links mean and how a bad link differs from a good link in terms of overall ranking of your site. for my first site that I had (I have since sold off that site), I accepted left right and centre all requests for incoming links or reciprocal links and started hoping that soon Mr. Google would be too impressed and started raining me with traffic and its much sought after PR. Of course both remained elusive till long and then in a rather hard way I learnt few lessons, which I am sharing with you.
1. Beware of sites sending robotized requests for reciprocal linking.
If your site is just few months old, this phenomenon would not be entirely unknown to you. Daily in your mail box, you would be getting lots of mails asking you to exchange the link or get link free and so on. These automatic requests mean that even the site sending you the request has not seen or appreciated your site and has rather picked up your email address from some where and managed to send you mass email.
Be very frugal in accepting such requests and do visit the site. most of the time you would see that those sites are just no good, enjoy no rankings and would be wide off the subject from your site. most of such requests come from sites selling replica of products or promising to sell pharmaceutical products and so on. Quite often than not, these links are from poor quality sites and driven by desire to get PR or high traffic without offering much value to visitors. And yes, if you are getting an offer from a site that has some synergy as yours or complements your site in some way, has good PR or traffic, do accept such request. Forget having link from a porn / spam site. These links are sure to do more harm to your site than any good.
2. Pages on which you would get the link is as important.
Most often, the sites that are good and give you link, bury them in far off pages, never visited by any human and rarely visited by a search engine spider. The link preferably should be on a separate links page that the webmaster might have made or some prominent page of his site for you to get meaningful traffic through the link or if the link is expected to help you in improving the PR. Of course, you would not expect any visitor to browse through huge directories of hundreds of categories, stuffed with pages and pages of links and then drill down through all the pages and find your site in such a directory.
3. Reciprocal Links are bad but are "Three Way Links" any good.
Of course, by now, we all know that unless reciprocal links are from cluster of sites owned by same webmaster, reciprocal links do you no good. This was changed by many enterprising webmasters to “Three way Links” game. This works as, assume you have a site A. Webmaster of site B would offer you and link and in turn expect link for his site C from your site A. No search engine is going to share you its algorithm. In case it is in the open that this practice is on, I cant believe that the search engines would not be any wiser to know this going on and would not be working to detect this. My experience on the web shows, it is better to be slow in gaining ranking or reputation but be wary of getting some punitive rankings from a good search engine. If that happens, it is going to be an uphill task to rectify the damage. So better, concentrate on getting natural links and rest assured, if you are working sincerely on your site, the natural links wont be far away. Following strategies have delivered proven results in cases of my clients.
Great Resource website would get you links automatically.
Concentrate on the site stats to know the entry and exit page of your visitor. Each visitor to your site must be a satisfies visitor and should get the content that he came looking for. I mentioned in one earlier article too, that quite often you would see visitor coming on a search term on your site, that your site has no relevant content to offer for. Be prompt to develop content for that term as one thing is sure that your site ranks higher on that term. If you can make your website a true resource and a great place where visitors can get the information that they need, then it will not go unnoticed.
Participate in forums related to subject of your site
Help people coming with queries in these forums and provide them genuine help. This would help you in many way. One, after getting genuine advice will give you good credits for the same, second, you would get more visitors to your site; third for detailed replies to an query, you can post link of your site page to
That which would give you one extra link in search engine result and last but not the least your site would develop some loyal clientele. You can also contribute articles to some sites in the subject category of your site. lengthy articles can be split in two parts with a link at the bottom of first article leading to second article on your site. Meaningful articles will get a lot of benefit by distributing your articles.
Judicious Reciprocal Linking
There is nothing wrong with the idea of websites trading links. However, if you are going to do it, then only link to a site that you think is a good one or has some value for your web visitors. Make sure that your link will be placed on a page that has the potential of sending you some traffic.
