Google Adsense referral program on way out in most countries

Admitting that its reffreal programs have not been performing as well as anticipated, Google has announced some changes in its remuneration structure for adsense referral program. Google has clarifies that only Google adsense referrals would be affected by this and not any other Google referral program.

As against earlier, the changed reffreal program would depend upon location of the publisher and not its users. Google had earlier introduced referral program where if a user earns $5 in first 180 days, publisher too gets similar amount and where he earns more than $100, publishers gets $250.

Now Google has stopped this incentive and reverted back to its original remuneration structure under which the the payout for referring a user who generates $100 with AdSense in the first 180 days will return to $100.These pricing changes will take place during the last week ofJanuary. A referred user who reaches $100 within 180 days of signing up and who removes all payments holds before the change occurs will generate earnings of $250 for the referring publisher.

This means that, after this change, any referred publisher that generates $100 in earnings would earn only $100 for the referring publisher, who also stands to refund $5 bonus received earlier. Thus the date a user was referred will only affect the window period but the corresponding payout of the referring publisher may not be affected.

Google also has announced intention of discontinuing of this referral program for publishers outside of North America, Latin America, and Japan. Admitting that this referral product has not performed as well as it had hoped in these regions, it has announced intention to discontinue the same. Accordingly, publishers will no longer see the option to create a referral button for AdSense in their account, although existing buttons will display as normal.

Adsense publishers may begin replacing any existing referrals promoting AdSense with referrals for another product.
