Google introduces new ad format to avoid accidental clicks

Getting banned from adsense account has been a nightmare for any webmaster that monetizes his site through adsense. Horror stories galore about how a publisher was banned by adsense for “no fault of his”. So much so that Google once acknowledged the mail volume it receives from publishers for accidental clicks on their sites. This even though Google has periodically acknowledged that it accepts that sometimes accidental clicks do happen with no malicious intent.

These accidental clicks don’t deliver any value to advertiser as well as these rarely translate into sales. To help both publishers and advertiser solve this problem, Google has improved and introduced new ad format. As again earlier, when a user could click on both the background and full text of an ad, but now they can click only on the title and URL of a text ad. These would reduce the chances of accidental clicks as only those with serious intent of clicking of an ad would click on the link and go to the advertiser web page.

In addition, this new clickable format better aligns with the text ad formats.

This move is expected to help both advertisers and publishers as while advertiser would get a visitor who is serious to know more and publisher would have less chances of accidental clicks and help stay away from dreaded Google mail.
