Increasing Ad Click through rate
As a webmaster, one of most trouble some area is how to get increased traffic to the site. Without adequate traffic, many sites die down as fast as they emerged. Many sites claim ‘magic cures’ to get more traffic to the site, but had such a magical phenomenon existed that can give traffic and loyal visitors even in the long run, no body would have failed. There are forums and forums, horde of websites that claim to provide instant solution to this but as a webmaster who struggled for 2 years before getting the real genuine traffic, I have concluded one thing that have content and you would have visitors. Building unnecessary links, reciprocal links etc would give you some traffic in short run, may even give you PR but sustainable or loyal traffic would elude you. Visiting various forums, I have seen that though quite useful information is available, few people even at such respectable forums actually understand fundamental principles of Internet marketing.
For example, what is the most important aspect of your Internet marketing campaigns? What is the most important area to focus on in order to make your business succeed?
Instead of asking, how to get traffic, the first question needs to be "What do you do with the traffic that my website already receives?” Seeing the traffic stats of your site, you would notice that there would be many visitors to your site coming thru searching some words on which you do not have much content. Now it is a good lead that some body needs information on that subject and your site some how ranks higher on that keyword. Then why not to have content on that specific issue, where you already top on search results.
For example, let's say that you are already getting 500 visitors a day (that means you really have some site). As industry average and as discussed in most forums, it should mean a click through rate of about 5%. Some innovative measures as ad placement, site optimization and good use of keywords would definitely make it much higher.
Assume such traffic and click thru rate gives you average income of say 35 dollars. Obviously, if traffic is doubled, then the income should rise to 70 dollars. What would your opinion be if such additional traffic comes at cost of say 10 to 15 dollars, still worth it?.
Such higher traffic would bring along certain other benefits as higher PR, besides the site would also start appearing higher in other results. So….what are you waiting for and why not start doing something right now.
Here are a few basic things that you can do for your site.
1. If your site is running on adsense, make a study about the click thru rate of visitors at your site over various months. Note the deviation. Also note the number of Unique visitors coming to your site in a month. If there are more unique visitors, then probably the content is either not being regularly updated or not up to the satisfaction of the visitor.
2. Study various sites whether in same category or other and compare the ease of navigation in various sites. Should you get the feel that you need to improve navigation, do not wait. Most users are quite finicky. Most users land at your site thru net search and therefore, have seen presentation of many sites on the subject. Comparison is instant. If most other sites have better layout or content, they are likely to close your window soon. Average time by a visitor on our site, as revealed by site stats would also be a good indicator to show the interest a user has shown in your site.
3. See if the ads appearing along your content are relevant or say while you are talking about pig-iron and you are getting ads of pig breeding farms. If something like this is happening, there is something wrong with the content management. Check your site for right density of keywords.
4. Track what happens next.
Now watch your traffic and clicks for the next week or so. Did you notice a difference? Did it get better? Did it get worse? If it got better then keep whatever it is you did. If it got worse, then revert back to your old design.
This may sound like a lot of work (and it is), but I guarantee that it will help you to make higher profits on your website, without spending a dime on advertising!
If there is one difference that I have noticed between successful webmasters and unsuccessful webmasters it is that they test and they track everything that they do. If you don't know how well you are doing, how are you going to improve?
