Misconceptions about Site Optimization

Most webmasters are looking at various sites to look for SEO services. Now what drives them to look for such services; answer is simple. As a job less man would look for shelter every where, even in the office of astrologer, a webmaster with no traffic would desperately look for various measures including site optimization. There is no dearth of people claiming to be experts in site optimization, with different people quoting $50 a month to thousands a month and everybody seems poised to offer free advice on how to effectively incorporate SEO into YOUR website.

I really doubt, most of the person would understand what a real site optimization is. Simply speaking search engine optimization is just the art of making web pages unique and attractive to a search engine. You need not bother about which search engine as some people claim that they are Google specialists or Yahoo specialists.

In fact the misconception about the search engines started about 20 years ago when the search engines used to index an entry in their record as submitted by webmaster. Not any more. Now with their advanced logic, search engines get the information required by direct crawl. Accordingly a search engine would classify a content not basing it on the basis of content alone but also the overall theme of the site, uniqueness etc. In nut shell, now the search engine positioning is decided by search engine only which cannot be easily manipulated by humans.

It is not that the search engines results can not be manipulated today, but with the fast advancements in the logic, the loopholes are quickly being located and plugged.

The initial site optimization techniques were quite primitive such as manipulating content by increasing the usage of keywords, often to huge multiples which might be hidden in the background of the site, for example. In this way they could increase their website's search engine rank. A higher rank meant more visitors, which usually meant more money. A fact the webmasters easily understood.

Search engine algorithms existed previously, but as with criminals and cops, as webmasters got better at sneaking around the existing algorithms, the search engines improved their algorithms to prevent their doing so. Today, decoding search engine algorithm is not as easy as it used to be. A search in a billion dollar industry and it is accordingly investing as much in research and security.

The major shift in emphasis in search engines to rely less and less on the information provided by the webmasters and created software which could investigate the site independently and form conclusions on what it found there is a step in this direction.

From the viewpoint of the search engine or the human visitor, while various techniques of search engine optimization are important, the quality of the content provided to your visitor is probably going to be the best search engine optimization method of all.
