Simple Tweaks to gain traffic to your Site

May be this scenario fits your site too! That you have a nice site, with regularly updated content, nice navigation, visitors who happen to be there, tend to like it, but you are unable to get swarm of traffic and monetize the site properly, not knowing what to do or how to fix and at the same time unable to hire some expert help, who comes at a heavy price.

1. Graphics:
Generally a web page is viewed from Left to Right by most users. The spaces on left of your page are most important and maximize its use. Most visitors are blind to excessive graphics unless the site theme demands it. A balanced mix of text and graphics will make your site more appealing.
2. Simplicity
A layout that does not appear too complex or where too much data is thrust into appears visually aesthetic. Complex layouts are heavier for most visitors to navigate. Most successful sites would have simple layouts as Reviewme[dot]com, Baidu[dot]com etc
3. Use of Proper Fonts
I know of many people who tend to like or dislike a particular newspaper just for the fonts and layout of that paper. Same is true for web sites too. Most of the popular sites would be using Arial and Verdana font, not smaller than 10 size and not bigger than 14. You would rarely see a popular site using Book antiqua or Courier font.
4. Smooth Background
Avoid excessive use of graphics unless absolutely essential for the subject of the site. Keep background simple and plain, pictures should not hinder the readability of the text. Any presentation that causes visual fatigue would deter visitors.
5 Graphics and Flash
Quite often I come across the sites which have heavy graphics and use of flash. Flash should rarely be used unless the very subject of the site demands it. Any text about the company, in flash animation, would not get indexed in search engines. Excess use of graphics would also increase in site load time.
6. Simple Navigation
Simple Navigation is definitely helpful in guiding a visitor to the content. A site should rarely exceed three levels of depth and if your site is required to be complex, you would do well to have a site map in the site.
7 Simple Text
Simple text in easy to read fonts, broken I simple and short sentences, well structured sentences add beauty to your site.
Besides above, having a nice logo, title bar that changes with every page to tell a visitor on which page is he, division of page in different categories, and a personalized area on sites which require user registration would make added difference to the site.
