Your Site needs to be dynamic to adapt to new search engine techniques
Period 2000-2002 witnessed sudden emergence of many sites which aimed to capitalize on Internet boom and many of these sites were just shady sites without any original content and heavily stuffed artificially with keywords. In fact, most of such sites aimed to attract traffic either by stuffing too many keywords and thus ranking high on search engines results or just getting traffic by getting ad clicks at a cheaper rate and the visitor of site was just offered a junk write up and compilation of Google ads leaving visitor no option but to click one of the ads. The webmaster earned the difference between the cost paid for such ad that the visitor clicked for visiting the site and the revenue that the ad clicked by the visitor on the site. These sites are also known as adsense arbitrage websites. Innumerable such sites can still be found on the net.
This phenomenon was soon discovered by search engines which quickly changed their algorithm to weed out such sites and thus started the era when search engines started changing their algorithms periodically; both to improve their search results and to eliminate such sites from their reported results. As a webmaster, you would constantly be observing changing ranking and indexing of your site. In this article, I would intend to update readers with the recent changes in the search engines algorithms so that they may review if their site needs to be updated to keep pace with such changes.
First major change is that the site crawl especially by Google is more frequently and hence you can expect to get indexed faster. You cane expect to gain page rank much faster and on the flip side, if you don't update your site frequently, you can expect to lose that too equally fast.
Next major change that has happened in algorithm of search engines is that more weight is given to sites which syndicate articles and so buckle up to issue press release, exchanging RSS feeds and syndicating articles.
Next, It would be a great idea to have a site map for your site. Have a good site navigation that allows each page to be accessed through any page on the site.
Forget swap clicking, manipulated links, cloaking, hidden text. If you do, be sure to get penalized equally faster. If you have a single page web site, think of expanding it by adding more content with good navigation. Affiliate sites are not ranked high now a days.
Many webmaster indulge in mixing sponsored links with the content. It does work for short term but I would like to advise you to desist from it. If you are getting traffic through adwords, make sure that your landing page has at least 500 words with about 12% keyword density. This would help you get relevant ads through adsense.
I would strongly advocate to avoid use of any shady techniques to get ranking or traffic and just concentrate on adding valuable content for visitors that does not disappoint them.
MSN has changed the name of their search engine bots. And has classified its bots in separate categories and some of its bots are msnbot, msnbot-products, msnbot-news, msnbot-media. This should help web masters decipher the bots visit from their web logs.
How can the discussion be complete without discussing yahoo. Yahoo has launched new crawler that is about 25% more efficient in getting results and saves your bandwidth too. It also released an index update in mid-July. You can read all about it at http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000327.html .
So gear up and keep yourself abreast with the latest changes in the search engines techniques and keep visiting this site.
