Building Links

Getting backlinks to your site without spending a penny

Recent google PR update has severely punished sites for selling links; either directly or through paid reviews. It means any sort of links, either bought or sold would do only harm to your site and no good. Such links have done no good to webmasters who have purchased links.

It is not that getting links have become passé. Even today, links help in getting higher PR and traffic. But only genuine links do help.

Few common methods to get links that won’t harm your site are:

1. Signatures: Use signatures at the end of every email you send out, or in forum posts.
2. Leave comments on other websites. Remember to leave meaningful comments, which supplement the content of the page. This would help webmasters too as they do get user generated content and your comments, where useful would help them get higher traffic too.

Gaining inbound links for greater traffic

As more and more search engines have started to lay emphasis on content rather than code, importance of inbound links is more vital than ever.

Buying links is not done any more; as for one the ruling prices for the links are too high and for second; with Google ignoring these links for rating the site and other engines likely to follow suit, these links may soon lose its relevance.

Other than buying the links; some common and yet effective methods for getting inbound links are:

1. Leaving comments on Blogs
Making a community of the sorts does help. Do leave comments on good posts on other people’s blogs. Be sure to productively interact with those bloggers, even if the blog is of your competitor’s. It makes them feel good. It validates what they're writing about. It starts up a relationship between the two of you while you too get inbound link as a bonus.

2. Paid Reviews on other sites

Though no search engine has exactly revealed its algorithm, there is complete unanimity and awareness among all webmasters that links play an important role in getting traffic to the site. Good incoming links play important part in getting higher Google Page Rank, something which every webmaster looks forward to. Fortunately, you need not go through long drawn process of earning links for your site. There are experts in the field that would do it all for you in shortest possible time while leaving you free to concentrate on your business.

Incoming Links and key phrases that add value to your site

I should not start the blog explaining the importance of incoming links or the quality of links that go to help your site. This all is well understood and recognized. I would start from point that, the role that anchor text plays in the usefulness of an incoming link. Let me confess, during my initial days as webmaster, I had no clue about the role being played by anchor text in the value of the link.

Some bad linking practices that can harm your site

PR of a site comes only with time. Unless you are too big a publisher that can add tons of content a day, and rather let me say tons of content that your visitors happen to like and link to that, PR comes gradually. In a bid to gain PR, usually webmaster resort to reciprocal linking with just any site. Webmasters, who got PR, resort of selling of links from their sites as higher the PR, higher the income a web site fetches from sale of links. Sale of links, if done under some restraint, is fine, else it may and rather becomes cause of your site losing PR. After Getting PR has to be maintained by keeping up the quality content and restrained sale of links.

How to maximize use of Google Bots for your site

There are about 10 million web pages on the index which need to be indexed by any search engine. Each search engine uses a spider to index the pages. The spider used by Google is known as Google bot and in today’s article, I would share some of its internal working procedures and how it affects indexing of your site. Google bot is commonly used as a single term while in fact google bots are of two types; deepbot and fresh bot. Deepbot is the google spider that is meant to deep crawl of your site and index as many pages and assess internal structure of your site; that is to know about site map of your site. In fact if you keep the site map ready or keep the structure and navigation of your site simple, you are helping this bot to index maximum data from your site. Each page indexed by google has a time stamp on it. Fresh bot is meant to index the fresh or modified pages of your site so as to keep the content updated on the web.

Why Complete Indexing of the Site takes time and how to expedite it

Whole of Site optimization revolves around getting maximum links for the and getting complete or maximum pages of the site indexed in search engine. Each search engine has its own proprietary algorithm which it keeps very close to its chest, revealing only as much as it wants. Only clue about their spidering and indexing process can be had by deciphering the logs of the site. Any theory or algorithm about indexing of the site is only a matter of speculation based on the experience and knowledge of spidering process. Google being most popular search engine, most of the webmasters are keen to understand its indexing process and experience shows that if you manage to program your site well to ensure deep crawl by Google bot, it also gets maximum pages listed on MSN and Yahoo, thereby leading to believe that other search engines too follow similar indexing process.

Contributing Articles for Increased Links and Traffic

One of the simplest thing about site optimization is to understand that higher the links on search engines; higher would be the traffic. I don’t think there is any need of any technical jargon to confuse readers with. If as a newbie webmaster, you are looking for traffic, besides content, all you need is large number of links.
How such Links Work?
Spiders from search engines have different frequency to visit for each site. If you content keeps changing regularly, the spiders would schedule their visit to index your site more frequently than a site which does not change the content as regularly. Obviously, the older and the content rich sites are visited far more frequently than your site, if it is new. Putting an article in such site with a link to your site would lead for faster indexing of the article and as such the link to your site would also get indexed as fast.

Optimize your site before its launch

Most of the clients that come to me for getting their site optimized are the ones that have already got their site ready in place and are not satisfied with the traffic that they are getting. While suggesting them the methodology to be followed to optimize their site, quite often one reaches the situation where probably most part of the site is to be redone. This happens because of excessive use of flash without HTML text, not using Meta tags, title tags, poor or excessive key word density, heavy graphics etc.

Is Google indexing Spam?

Is Google treating sub-domains as full-fledged domains ?
Suddenly in a period of about six months, Google is rumored to have added another few billion pages to its index. Seems reasonable? Yes, should be at the first instance. I personally saw and monitored results from a few sites. While checking results, I discovered that while a sample site chosen for the purpose should have had about 1500 pages indexed, Google had indexed more than 3700 pages and I could see that every single page and every thing link that the page had anywhere on the net had been indexed.
